Oil on canvas
2018-2022
As opposed to traditional portraiture, I am fascinated by movement, commonality and everyday actions. Actions like shaving or putting on lipstick. For example a woman stretching her face to put on her lipstick. A man pulling a tee shirt on over his head, a woman playfully puckering her lips for the camera. This is life. And a rich vein to be mined by painters.
All my images are cropped so the faces appear larger and more dynamic.
Most pages have a slight distortion caused by foreshortening.
I use a baroque color palette (white, Naples yellow, yellow ocher, burnt siena, cobalt blue and ivory black). All paintings are oil on canvas and 36” X 36” square. I paint large realistic portraits of friends and models. They are 36” X 36” (3’X 3’).
They are all oil on canvas.
I paint in a realistic style. Big shapes, following the planes.
